Ms. Julia Malcolm

Chair of Science
B.Ed., OCT Certified, B.Sc. (Queen's University)
Member of Brock House

Ms. Julia Malcolm joined SJK in 2016, and she brought with her the belief that an educator's role is to engage student minds and provide context and connection through hands-on experience. She previously taught at Branksome Hall, an International Baccalaureate (IB) girls' school in Toronto, for 12 years. Ms. Malcolm also taught in the Peel District School Board. She places great emphasis on inquiry through strategies such as problem-based learning and critical challenges. Ms. Malcolm encourages students to work cooperatively to learn about the nature of science and discuss the ethics and mechanics of everyday issues such as the impact of genetically modified organisms. She is passionate about the environment and environmental sustainability.

Ms. Malcolm aims to practice behaviours that reduce human impact on the planet. As an avid hiker, and camper, she appreciates the opportunity to be immersed in nature. She cares about student wellness and believes fresh air and activity can help students to learn and activate their minds. Ms. Malcolm aims to find creative ways to get students to think critically and learn new material.
