The Five Worlds Program supports SJK’s mission “to discover the unique talents of each student, ignite their love of learning, and build their capacity for global action.” How better to accomplish this mission than by exploring the world beyond the classroom?
While SJK’s Five Worlds categories were originally based on geographical regions, we are relaunching the program to focus on the lenses through which we view and experience the world. As a team of IB learners at SJK, we also strive for opportunities to enhance our learner profile traits: principled, caring, inquirers, risk-takers, knowledgeable, thinkers, open-minded, communicators, balanced, and reflective.
Look at the new Five Worlds logo: contained in the globe, you’ll find an array of five aperture blades symbolizing a lens. Each blade represents a different way of viewing the world. When combined together, each different perspective helps us to have a more complete understanding of the world in which we live.
The red blade represents a World of Impact, a perspective that grows our capacity to be more principled and caring. The dark blue blade represents a World of Possibilities: travel that helps us to become better inquirers and risk-takers through personal investigation and development. Trips centred around a World of Origins, represented by the yellow blade, develop us as knowledgeable thinkers while we explore historical origins. Trips focussed on a World of Culture, represented by the light blue blade, extend our aptitude for being open-minded communicators. Finally, the green blade represents a World of Nature: travel that emphasizes the importance of maintaining balanced ecosystems. These trips encourage us to be more reflective as we interact with the natural world.
