What SJK means to me

Aimée Puthon '09
To me, SJK has been a place of great learning, community and support.

My name is Aimée Puthon ‘09. I was fortunate enough (thank you Mom and Dad!) to attend SJK from Grades 1 to 12, which means I’m considered a “Lifer”. I had the pleasure of meeting, working with and being supported by many engaged and caring people within the SJK community.

As an active member of the SJK Foundation, when I drive through the blue gates of SJK, I can’t help but notice how well-maintained and cared for the property is. Each time I drive towards the main doors, I see how the campus continues to evolve with the addition of the Boathouse and Newton House (including Founders’ Hall, a community dining hall, and the Learning Commons, a modern and bright library and collaborative space). However, the real experience is not the infrastructure, it is the people.
Many of my teachers have left me with strong, positive impressions. Some are still teaching at the School and some have retired and moved along. There is a professionalism and a commitment that is unlike anything I have experienced. Many friendships and connections that I made at the School continue to this day and that is a real joy of mine.

Our world is a place of great discovery and exploration, as well as chaos. SJK has always been a place of steadiness. I believe that extracurricular activities available at every grade level at the School are critically important in shaping well-rounded individuals. There were so many incredible trips organized by teachers, such as Trek Nepal, as well as regional outings such as Bark Lake. These out of classroom learning opportunities are experiences we continue to carry with us for life.

Today, I am a real estate professional in Guelph and the surrounding area. My business is local by nature. Key pillars that matter deeply to me and my business are commitment to community and giving back. I believe these values were developed and supported through the environment and my time at SJK.

I love living in this region and calling this special part of Ontario home! I am pleased to contribute to and serve the SJK community as a member of the SJK Foundation.

Thanks for taking the time to read - I’d love to hear from you!
