Lower School - Wellness

One of the most effective ways for our students to continue to focus on wellness is through our Physical Education and Outdoor Experiential Education classes. Students have the opportunity every day to engage in a choice of activities that focus on movement or getting out-of doors. It provides a healthy change and body break for our young learners which helps them maintain focus and engagement throughout their day.

Remote learning has pushed students (and teachers!) to engage in creative ways to continue to move their bodies on a daily basis and our students have been active outside and in their homes. They have searched for animal tracks, discovered that running through fresh snow is a lot more difficult than along a track, pulled weighted sleds, engaged in some snowball target practice, and participated in yoga and stretching routines. Children discuss their activities on a daily basis with their teachers, and we’re all happy to hear that our community is moving and getting outside to skate, sled, and walk!

Finding balance and having time away from the screen is important to overall wellness. Children connect with each other online, and connecting with the natural world is key to supporting mental health. Movement and time spent outside positively affects mood, alleviates stress, and provides a needed body break. So, keep moving, get outside, and stay well!
